Creality CR-30

Start a print on this machine using OrcaSlicer over Wi-Fi.

Guide me through this print, one step at a time

Use the saved Makerspace profile. Machine menus vary with installed firmware; ask the lab steward when the controls differ from this guide.

  1. Check this machine

Match the physical label to Creality CR-30. Check printer status and make sure nobody else is using it. Clear old prints and loose filament; never interrupt another job. Label your job with your name and contact details.

  2. Prepare the build surface

Inspect the belt for scraps, damage, and contamination. Clear the output path and arrange support for long parts. Use the lab-approved belt cleaning method; do not apply a normal flat-bed leveling procedure.

  3. Load and confirm filament

Check that the material is approved for this printer. Use its guided preheat and filament Load/Extrude controls with the material's recommended temperature. Feed filament along the correct path and confirm a steady extrusion. On the Prusa, follow the LCD loading prompts. On a Klipper-controlled machine, use the configured device interface. Stop and ask for help if feeding jams or clicks.

  4. Open OrcaSlicer and select the printer

Use the lab's saved profile for Creality CR-30, including the installed nozzle and build surface. Select the matching Wi-Fi device, not just another printer of the same model. The CR-30 needs the lab-validated belt profile and belt-compatible toolpaths. Do not use an ordinary flat-bed profile. If the saved OrcaSlicer setup is missing, ask the lab steward before continuing.

  5. Import and prepare the model

Import your STL or 3MF. Check dimensions and place a stable face on the build surface. Select the actual loaded material. Start with the approved default quality profile; add supports for unsupported regions and a brim when appropriate. Keep the model within the printable area.

  6. Slice and inspect the preview

Slice the plate and inspect the first layer, supports, floating islands, time estimate, and filament use. Review the belt orientation and angled toolpaths, and ensure the part can travel off the belt safely. Correct problems before sending.

  7. Send over Wi-Fi

Use the saved printer connection in OrcaSlicer to upload/send the sliced job over Wi-Fi. Confirm the device name and successful upload. If the connection fails, check the lab Wi-Fi and ask for the saved printer connection; do not guess IP addresses or overwrite shared settings.

  8. Start and stay for the first layer

Sending a file does not always start it. Confirm the correct filename in the configured Device interface or printer controls, then start it if needed. Watch heating, homing, and the first layer. Lines should adhere evenly without being dragged around. Stop the job if the part detaches, the nozzle scrapes, or material accumulates around the nozzle. Use the troubleshooting guide before retrying.

  9. Finish and leave it ready

Wait for the part and build surface to cool. Remove the print gently using the approved method, clear supports and scraps, and store filament as required. Do not pry hard or change shared calibration to remove a part. Report faults so the next user knows about them.
